Directions

The Roosevelt Library is on the eastern shore of the Hudson River, four miles north of Poughkeepsie, New York, midway between New York City and Albany. The Library is easily reached by car, train or plane.

By Car

The Roosevelt Library is approximately 2 hours from New York City, 1 1/2 hours from Albany, 2 hours from Hartford, CT, and 2 hours from Scranton, PA.

From Manhattan:

  • Take the Henry Hudson Parkway to the Taconic Parkway to I-84 west.
  • Follow I-84 west to Route 9 north.
  • The Roosevelt Library is on the left side of Route 9, 4 miles north of Poughkeepsie.

From Long Island:

  • Take the Long Island Expressway to Cross Island Parkway to I-678 and the Whitestone Bridge.
  • Follow the Hutchinson River Parkway (I-678) to Route 684 north, then I-84 west to Route 9 north.
  • The Roosevelt Library is on the left side of Route 9, 4 miles north of Poughkeepsie.

From New Jersey:

  • Take the Garden State Parkway, Palisades Parkway, or Route 17 to the New York Thruway (I-87) to exit 18 at New Paltz.
  • Follow Route 299 east to Route 9W south.
  • Cross the Mid-Hudson Bridge to Route 9 north.
  • The Roosevelt Library is on the left side of Route 9, 4 miles north of Poughkeepsie.

From Connecticut/Pennsylvania:

  • Take I-84 to Route 9 north.
  • The Roosevelt Library is on the left side of Route 9, 4 miles north of Poughkeepsie.

From Albany:

  • Take the New York State Thruway (I-87) south to exit 18 at New Paltz.
  • Follow Route 299 east to Route 9W south.
  • Cross the Mid-Hudson Bridge to Route 9 north.
  • The Roosevelt Library is on the left side of Route 9, 4 miles north of Poughkeepsie.

Driving south on Route 9:

  • The Roosevelt Library is located on the right, 2 miles south of the Vanderbilt Mansion in Hyde Park.

By Train

Metro-North Railroad operates regular trains daily from Grand Central Terminal to Poughkeepsie on the Hudson Line.

Amtrak offers connections to Poughkeepsie from hundreds of major cities throughout the country. The Amtrak station in Manhattan is Pennsylvania Station.

Taxi service is available to the Library from the Poughkeepsie station.

By Bus: Dutchess County Transit from the Poughkeepsie train station, Monday - Saturday (Sundays and holidays excluded):

  • Departs hourly from Poughkeepsie station at 6 minutes after the hour from 8:06 AM to 7:06 PM.
  • Arrives hourly at the Henry A. Wallace Visitor Center at the FDR Presidential Library and Home at 39 minutes after the hour from 8:39 AM to 6:39 PM.
  • Departs from the Henry A. Wallace Visitor Center at 40 minutes after the hour starting at 8:40 AM to 6:40 PM
  • Arrives at the Poughkeepsie train station at 6 minutes after the hour starting at 9:06 AM.
